Luke Walton's Basketball Camp

Lakers star Luke Walton and his friend Richard Jefferson of the Spurs bring their basketball camp to the OC for the first time. Interviews with Luke & Bill Walton.

This was the first time I covered a basketball camp of any kind, and I was a little surprised to see how young the kids were. The camp took in boys and girls ranging from 7-18 yrs. old, but there were a lot of kids who looked younger than seven.

Luke told our reporter Eric Carpenter that he thought the older kids decided to go to LeBron James' camp in San Diego earlier this month. After all, all these camps require quite a fee, (Walton & Jefferson's being $300) so I don't blame the older crowd for paying to be around one of the NBA's best players in LeBron James.

Even though Luke Walton and Richard Jefferson aren't marquee NBA names, I was disheartened to see that they didn't seem to be too hands on with their approach. There were a bunch of trainers there who were giving way more instruction than the former Arizona roommates.

I wouldn't want to pay $300 for my child to just hang around NBA stars. These kids were barely getting any instruction from Jefferson or Walton.

They were merely there to fool around with the kids and have a good time, and while that's all well and good, it's not worth the parents' hard earned money.

I agree that Walton and Jefferson should be involved a little more, but think about it, maybe the reason they don't get involved more is because they have nothing to offer.Maybe if Sasha was somehow involved in this it would be worth the money. NOT!!!!!!!!

Oh man that's cold George! But I believe Luke could offer a lot. He could teach the triangle offense, and entertain the crowd by telling stories about the Lakers. I mean he's probably got some hilarious stories of Kobe wanting to kill him after he misses a wide open 17 footer.

Its about dam time my boy Luke Walton gets his own camp. The man is remarkable, has completely transfixed the game and above all is quite the captivating player. Hes so cool that he doesnt even mind that all the kids have Kobe jerseys instead of Walton jerseys... what a great guy. Face of the Laker bench hands down
