Mayweather and Ortiz nearly come to blows
Floyd Mayweather and WBC Welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz brought their promotional hype machine to the Nokia Plaza at L.A. Live Wednesday, as a mostly pro-Ortiz crowd flocked to see the two combatants mix it up in a war of words.
The duo showed up to promote their WBC Welterweight World Championship boxing match scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Ortiz trash talked for most of the night, while Mayweather stayed uncharacteristically humble. He praised Ortiz, but finally addressed fighting Manny Pacquaio.
"We only want to fight the biggest and the best out there," said Mayweather. "And Manny Pacquaio, yes, you're next."
Meanwhile, Victor Ortiz was clearly fed up with being pushed to the backburner.
"I'm kind of tired of hearing that he's fighting Pacquaio," said Ortiz. "He's fighting me next, not Pacquaio, me."
Both men squared off to end the press conference, but immediately stopped acting like they hated each other in order to smile and pose for cameras.
And the hype machine rolls on...Tuesday, June 21, 2011
