Mater Dei is officially back

Whoever those imposters were that wore the Mater Dei unis in losses to Carson and Centennial better tell the real Mater Dei that they're sorry.

After being taken down from the O.C. top 10 for the first time in over 20 years, Mater Dei responded by spanking an unbeaten (4-0) San Clemente team 42-14. The key thing to take out of that game, was the Monarchs defense. The Tritons were averaging 38.5 ppg at the time.

And after tonight, I think we can all officially say that Mater Dei is back.

The Monarchs shut down another high-power county offense in Edison, 27-7. The Chargers could barely convert a first down in the first half. If it wasn't for a roughing the kicker penalty against Mater Dei, Edison probably would have never scored.

Mater Dei put pressure on their former player Chase Favreau all night long. His first pass attempt of the game was picked off by Freddie Mora, and it all went downhill from there.

And as far as the offensive side of the ball, well Max Wittek proved that has other receivers besides Victor Blackwell.

He connected with Josh Cook on one of the most athletic touchdowns you'll see this year. Wittek also threw a 10-yard TD strike to Glen Raphael. The USC commit finished with 175 yards and even ran one in for a score.

In the immortal words of Mark Twain: Reports of Mater Dei's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

JAK... Did you notice that the San Clemente player fumbled in the endzone on fourth-down and Edison's only score was waved off by one official and over-rided by another. I'm beginning to think that Mater Dei's new DC and staff are putting together great game plans and have the hats swarming to the ball. The Monarchs ended the game against Edison pounding with it's fourth-string RB. The Monarch's offensive line has become a brotherhood and are blocking well on runs as well as pass protection. The Monarchs are back in the Top Ten ahead of San Clemente, Edison, Dana Hills, La Habra and Newport Harbor.

Thanks for the comment Wiley.

I fully expect Mater Dei to leap frog a number of teams in the top 10 this week.

All I can say is, I just can't wait until Servite and Edison at Angels Stadium.

It's gonna be epic!
